Hurricane Matthew is making its way to South Florida and Broward County residents needs to be prepped! Shelters are available for all residents, especially the homeless population, people in evacuation zones with children, people with special needs and their guardians and people with pets. Monarch High School, 5050 Wiles Road, in Coconut Creek. Pompano Beach High School, 600 N.E. 13th Ave., Pompano Beach. Park Lakes Elementary School, 3925 N. State Road 7, Lauderdale Lakes. Plantation Elementary School, 651 N. W. 42nd Ave., Plantation. Fox Trail Elementary School, 1250 Nob Hill Rd., in Davie. Rock Island Elementary and Arthur Ashe Middle School, 1701 NW 23rd Ave., in Fort Lauderdale. Everglades High School, 17100 SW 52 Ave., in Miramar. New Renaissance Middle School, 10701 Miramar Blvd., Miramar. Watkins Elementary School, 3520 S. W. 52nd Ave., Pembroke Park. West Broward High School, 500 NW 209 Ave., Pembroke Pines. Falcon Cove Middle School, 4251 Bonaventure Blvd., in Weston. Pet-friendly shelter: Millenium Middle School, 5803 NW 94th Ave., in Tamarac. To be accepted at the shelter, pet owners must have documentation to show the pets are up-to-date on rabies vaccination and licensing. The pets must be crated and pet owners cannot stay with the animals. Service animals are permitted at all shelters so long as the pet meets the requirements under federal law.
