Jordan gave the organization its largest gift given by an individual — $10 million, CNN reported.

No. 23 is turning 60 on Friday. He’s been a partner with Make-A-Wish for more than half his life.

“For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids,” Jordan said in a statement, according to CNN. “Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration. I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true.”

Jordan granted his first wish in 1989 and has given hundreds since. He has also become Make-A-Wish’s Chief Wish Ambassador, The Associated Press reported.

He said he hopes that others will follow his lead and fulfill the desires of children who are waiting for their wishes to come true, the AP reported.

Make-A-Wish was founded in 1980 and grants wishes to critically ill children who are referred by their doctors, parents or other relatives.

The organization has granted more than 360,000 wishes in the U.S. since its inception, The Wall Street Journal reported.
