‘Tron’ sequel starring Jared Leto to differ from earlier films

“Lion” director Garth Davis is set to direct the third “Tron” movie, which will likely not be a continuation of the previous two films.

Davis, who is not known for movies using special effects typical of the Tron franchise, reportedly persuaded Disney executives to give him the directing role. Davis’ debut film “Lion” received six Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Jared Leto is set to star and produce the unnamed film.

While the movie is moving forward, it is still in the development stage at Disney and has not been given have a green light, Variety said.

The original “Tron” debuted in 1982 and was followed by the 2010 sequel “Tron: Legacy.” Both films starred Jeff Bridges as “Kevin Flynn” as a computer programmer who is transported into a computer network.
