Jade’s Juice: Paul Rudd Hates Phones, RAYE Brings Receipts and a $200K Food Truck Comes to Broward

Paul Rudd Thinks Our Phones Are Ruining Us

Paul Rudd has apparently discovered the secret to never aging: put the phone down.

Okay, maybe not, but he does think our phones are changing the way we interact with each other, and not for the better.

Rudd admits he’s just as addicted as everybody else, but he no longer brings his phone onto movie sets.

While filming his latest movie, A Statement, the director enforced a strict no-phone policy, and Rudd says it made the experience feel like making a movie in 1980.

Instead of staring at screens between scenes, the cast actually sat around, talked and got to know each other.

Imagine that.

Apparently before phones, people just had conversations when they were bored.

Sounds exhausting.

American Kids Are Seriously Falling Behind in Fitness

Here’s a stat that’s a little scary.

Kids in the U.S. reportedly rank 47th out of 50 countries when it comes to fitness, with screen time being pointed to as a major problem.

One program is trying to fight screens with... another screen.

PHIT Kids is a virtual fitness program taught by kids for kids. It includes 14 learn-to-play sports videos and 11 exercise videos designed to break down skills in a way children can easily understand.

The program can be used in schools, gyms, homes and homeschool settings.

So yes, technically they’re still watching a screen.

But at least this one is making them get off the couch.

A South Florida Family Turned Their Story Into a Children’s Book

A South Florida mom and dad are now authors of a number one selling book on Amazon with a pretty special message.

Five years ago, Juan Hernandez suffered a spinal cord injury and now uses a wheelchair.

Juan and his wife, Valeria, decided to turn their family’s experience into a children’s book called Why Does Daddy Use Wheels?

The book uses toddler-friendly language and illustrations to show that fathers and sons can still go on adventures together despite physical differences.

And they don’t just want the book reaching families who use wheelchairs.

Juan and Valeria hope other parents will read it with their children as a way to normalize conversations about disabilities from an early age.

RAYE Brought Receipts

Someone on social media apparently decided to call RAYE a one-hit wonder.

RAYE could’ve ignored it.

Instead, she politely brought receipts.

The British singer-songwriter, who has billions of online streams and has written songs for artists including Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez, responded by showing off three plaques for songs that have each surpassed one billion streams.

Her caption?

“Just saying.”

She’s also already picked the title of her third album: And Then She Fell in Love.

There’s just one problem.

RAYE says she refuses to record it until she actually falls in love because she’s tired of writing songs about relationships going badly.

She admits that means the album could take 10 years.

So no pressure to whoever her next date is, but there is an entire album waiting on you.

This Pompano Beach High School Just Got a $200,000 Food Truck

Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach just got something no other high school in Florida has.

A $200,000 food truck.

And this isn’t just about giving students something different for lunch.

The truck will be used to teach students how to cook, operate a business and manage the financial side of running it.

Students will serve food at football games, basketball games and community events, with the revenue going back into the program.

Cooking. Business. Budgeting. Customer service.

Actual skills they’ll probably use as adults.

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for the day someone asks me to analyze Shakespeare in order to refinance my mortgage.

Your Morning Coffee Could Eventually Help Insulate Your House

We drink around 2 billion cups of coffee every day, which also means we’re throwing away an enormous amount of coffee grounds.

Researchers in South Korea have found another potential use for all that waste: building insulation.

The leftover grounds are heated until they become a charcoal-like material called biochar. Researchers then combine that with plant-based materials to create insulation that reportedly performs similarly to foam products commonly used in buildings.

So your morning coffee could wake you up and eventually help keep your house cool.

No word on whether cranking the AC makes the entire place smell like Folgers.

Although I’m not completely against that.
