Miami-Dade Transit Is About to Get More Expensive

For the first time in 13 years, Miami-Dade County is raising fares for Metrobus and Metrorail.

Starting January 1, 2027, the standard fare will jump from $2.25 to $2.75.

County officials say the extra 50 cents will help prevent the elimination of 13 bus routes currently used by more than 4,000 riders.

But there could be another big change coming.

The county is also exploring the possibility of ending free rides on the Metromover, which currently takes passengers around Downtown Miami and Brickell at no charge.

Not surprisingly, riders have mixed feelings. Some say they’re willing to pay more if it means better service, while others aren’t thrilled about paying extra for the same experience.

Miami-Dade will still reduce service on some low-ridership bus routes, while free and discounted fares will remain available for eligible seniors, students and people with disabilities.

So starting next year, add another 50 cents to the list of things getting more expensive in Miami.
