Tributes continue to pour in following the death of music legend Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday at the age of 80 after what her team described as a brief battle with cancer.

One of the more unexpected and touching tributes came from Eminem.

The rapper shared a handwritten note Dolly sent him after the two were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

In the letter, Dolly congratulated Eminem on his induction and performance. She admitted she didn’t know a lot about rap music but knew he was one of the very best at it. She also told him she’d always felt an unexplained connection to him and hoped they’d eventually have the opportunity to meet.

Sadly, that meeting never happened.

Eminem said receiving the letter had a real impact on him, especially because Dolly didn’t have to take the time to write it.

He remembered her as an icon and “a superstar in every sense,” ending his tribute by thanking Dolly for her kind words and telling her to rest easy.

Eminem is one of dozens of celebrities honoring Parton following her death. Jane Fonda, Carol Burnett, Reba McEntire, Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Blake Shelton and many others have also shared tributes.

Parton’s representatives said she died surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center after a brief battle with cancer. She had reportedly also been dealing with kidney and autoimmune issues before being hospitalized days before her death.

Dolly’s impact went far beyond her music. Through programs like her Imagination Library, hundreds of millions of books have been given to children around the world, while her philanthropy also included significant contributions to medical research.

And perhaps Eminem’s letter is a perfect example of the kind of person so many are remembering: someone who didn’t have to take the time to make another person feel special, but did anyway.
