Man Catches Cheating Wife With a Robot Vacuum and Somehow Ends Up in Jail

The features of the iRobot Roomba are demonstrated in a show room at the iRobot offices, on August 24, 2012 in Bedford, Massachusetts. The Roomba, a robotic vacuum cleaner, is one of a series of cleaning robots made by iRobot.

File this under: Everybody loses.

A man in Taiwan suspected his wife might be cheating after finding a mysterious toothbrush at their vacation home.

Months later, he remotely activated the camera on their robot vacuum because he wanted to surprise his wife by talking to her through it.

Cute idea.

Instead, he reportedly found his wife at the house with another man.

Rather than immediately confronting them, the husband continued recording through the vacuum so he could use the footage as evidence. He eventually sued his wife and the other man for compensation and won, with the pair ordered to pay him NT$500,000 ($15,780 USD).

You’d think that’s where this story ends.

Nope.

His wife turned around and sued HIM because he’d recorded them without their consent.

A Taiwanese court ruled that even though the footage helped prove the affair, the husband had still violated their privacy by secretly recording them.

The result?

He was sentenced to five months in jail and ordered to pay a NT$150,000 ($4,800 USD) fine.

So the robot vacuum caught the affair, helped win one lawsuit and then provided the evidence that helped get its owner convicted.

And mine can’t even find its way back to the charger.
