MLB Team Reportedly Has a $4 Million Deal Waiting for a 12 Year Old

What were you doing when you were 12?

Because Kevin Sosa is apparently already planning for a potentially VERY lucrative future.

The Detroit Tigers have reportedly reached an informal pre-agreement with the 12-year-old baseball prospect that could eventually include a $4 million signing bonus.

Yes. Twelve.

According to international baseball reporter Wilber Sánchez, Sosa is considered an elite young infielder who is already capable of handling fastballs in the 91 to 93 mph range.

But there’s a pretty important catch here: the Tigers have not actually signed him or paid him $4 million.

Under MLB’s international signing rules, Sosa isn’t old enough to officially sign yet. He’s reportedly part of the 2031 international class, meaning we’re talking about a potential deal that’s still roughly four years away.

Basically, Detroit is reportedly calling dibs.

And obviously, a LOT can happen between 12 and 16. His development could change, MLB’s rules could change and the reported agreement isn’t a guarantee that he’ll eventually sign for that amount.

Still, imagine being 12 years old and somebody is already discussing a future $4 million signing bonus for you.

At 12, my biggest financial opportunity was finding five bucks in a birthday card.
