Miami started freaking out after reports surfaced that the original Shorty’s BBQ near Dadeland could soon be closing its doors, but the restaurant is clearing things up.

Shorty’s released a statement confirming that the iconic location is still open and serving customers.

The property was sold to developers in 2022 and redevelopment is eventually planned for the site, but Shorty’s says there is currently no closing date to announce.

And when that day does come, they made one thing very clear: Miami will hear it directly from them.

So for now, nobody panic. You can still pull up to those picnic tables, order the ribs and corn, and enjoy a Miami institution that’s been around since 1951.
