#DirtyAt30: Rachel Platten Forgets Words To National Anthem

Rachel Platten performed the national anthem at Saturday's NWSL soccer game between the Utah Royals and the Chicago Red Stars and forgot the lyrics twice. She sang, "Oh say can you see, by the stars early light." She mistakenly sang "stars" instead of "dawn's" in the first line of the anthem.

Platten quickly apologized and started over, but had to stop again and ask someone to give her the next line. She ended up making it through the anthem after beginning it for the third time.

Platten released a statement after saying, "I have done it a bunch of times, but I stepped in front of the people and I felt the expectation. I was ready to open up and do it, and my mind just went blank. I was trying to explain it to my husband: It was like a test that you know all the material to, you study so much and you get in there, and your mind doesn't cooperate."

She also said that she went into the bathroom and checked social media after she messed up, trying to learn the right lesson from her performance.

She said, "None of us are perfect; I'm not perfect. I really understand how it feels to not like something about yourself or have a big flaw. This is an opportunity to own that message more and hopefully share it more powerfully."
