9 injured after vehicle running ‘highway speeds’ rear-ends Amish buggy in Wisconsin

LITTLE BLACK, Wis. — Nine people were injured Thursday when a vehicle rear-ended an Amish buggy while traveling at “highway speeds” in north-central Wisconsin, authorities confirmed.

Deputies with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash just before 3 p.m. Thursday in the town of Little Black and discovered eight of the nine victims had suffered “significant” injuries, KARE reported.

All eight of those significantly injured were transported for medical care, but their conditions were not immediately known.

Ten people were in the northbound buggy at the time of the crash, WCCO reported.

The 35-year-old Medford, Wisconsin, man driving the vehicle, who has not been identified publicly, was jailed on suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and inattentive driving, authorities confirmed to the TV station.
