Apparently eating anything fresh now requires checking a recall list first.
Cyclospora, listeria, salmonella, E. coli... at this point, hot dogs are starting to feel like the responsible choice. We’ve already heard about recalls involving lettuce, jalapeños, blueberries and frozen fruit bars, and now alfalfa sprouts are joining the party. Everything Sprouts has issued a voluntary recall affecting multiple states, including Florida.
And while we’re checking the kitchen, Fromm’s wet dog food and Clear Eyes eye drops have also recently been part of recall news.
Also, can someone explain what alfalfa sprouts actually do? Have we been risking it all for a little crunch?
Publix Is Saying Goodbye to the Express Lane
The “10 Items or Less” era at Publix is coming to an end.
Publix is phasing out its traditional express checkout lanes, meaning when you run in for three things, you’ll basically have two options: self checkout or getting in line behind someone who appears to be purchasing groceries for an entire cruise ship.
And you KNOW that person sees the three things in your hand.
They see you.
They just don’t care.
A Few Quick Music Updates
KATSEYE just scored their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with WILD debuting at the top.
Meanwhile, Dr. Dre is firmly on Team AI when it comes to making music. He says AI is simply another creative tool and compared the people resisting it to those who may have pushed back against drum machines or synthesizers when they were introduced.
And Barry Manilow had to cancel his weekend shows at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino because of technical and vocal issues. Naturally, fans are concerned given his recent health issues following lung surgery.
Are Kids’ Backpacks Really THAT Heavy?
Doctors are warning parents that kids may be carrying way too much weight in their backpacks, potentially causing neck and back strain. Recommendations include using both backpack straps and keeping the bag’s weight around 10% of the child’s body weight.
I don’t have kids, so I need some help here.
First, I just found out a lot of schools don’t even have lockers anymore, with some getting rid of them around the pandemic. Why?!
Second, we didn’t have laptops when I was in school. We were walking around with notebooks for every subject, one or two textbooks for every class and a catch all box filled with pens, pencils, erasers, protractors and whatever else we thought we needed.
Apparently we weren’t students. We were pack mules.
Dolly Parton Does Not Know How to Slow Down
If you’re calling out sick today because you woke up with a headache, maybe don’t read Dolly Parton’s schedule.
After dealing with health issues that she says she didn’t properly address while caring for her late husband Carl, Dolly still has approximately 47 things going on.
Next month, she’s opening a new Nashville hotel and a new museum called Life of Many Colors, billed as the largest exhibition devoted to her life and career. She’s also working with Purina on dog treats, and her new coffee brand, Cup of Ambition, is expected to be available online next month.
Dolly, respectfully, please take a nap.
And that’s today’s Jade’s Juice.
