Nick Jonas could have been the voice behind one of Disney’s biggest animated characters, but there was just one problem: his audition was apparently terrible.

During the Jonas Brothers’ Hey Jonas! podcast, Nick revealed that he once auditioned to play Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen, a role that ultimately went to Jonathan Groff.

Nick said things went south almost immediately when casting asked what song he planned to perform. He hadn’t brought sheet music and apparently wasn’t prepared for the musical theater-style audition.

“I bombed the audition,” Nick admitted. “It was terrible.”

Kristen Bell, who voices Anna, jokingly responded, “That must have been why you didn’t get it.”

Despite losing out on the role, Nick says there were no hard feelings and he genuinely enjoyed Frozen when it was released.

Things worked out pretty well for everyone. Frozen went on to become a massive global hit, while Nick continued making music with the Jonas Brothers and building his own acting career.

Still, somewhere in an alternate universe, Kristoff is singing with a Jonas Brother voice.
