You know that 10-item limit at Publix express checkout lanes? Well, you can officially stop counting your groceries!

Publix is getting rid of the limit, and the change was actually tested right here in its South Florida division before expanding nationwide.

So, how is this supposed to make checkout faster?

Let’s say the express lane is empty, but the regular checkout lines are packed. Instead of making someone with 15 items wait, employees can send them to the available register.

The goal is to keep lines moving instead of having registers sitting empty.

You’ll also notice the familiar “10 items or less” signs being replaced with ones that simply say “Express.”

Now, I’m all for getting out of Publix faster, but imagine having just a Pub Sub in your hand and getting stuck behind someone’s weekly grocery shopping!

What do you think about Publix changing its express checkout policy? Will this speed things up or defeat the whole purpose of an express lane?
