Cynthia Thompson, recording artist, an influential Christian speaker, life coach and the wife of former NBA Player Billy Thompson (L.A. Lakers and Miami Heat).
Cynthia Thompson first hit the music scene in 1986. Her first two singles, "Ultimate Love" (1986) and "Stop Searching for Love" (1987) were released on Key Records. Later that year, "Got To Be Next To You" was released on Cyntone Records. From her early days singing gospel music in the church choir, Cynthia Thompson knew that her voice could be a vehicle to get her out of the heart of Miami, known as "Liberty City," and into a life she dreamed of in Hollywood, California. Growing up as one of nine children, who was raised by Bertha Mays (her adopted mother), she always vowed that the projects would never be her permanent residence. .
As with most young girls, who look for love in all of the wrong faces and places, she got involved in toxic relationships. As a result, she ended up being a mother at the age of 17, and then again at 22. Undaunted by what most would view as setbacks; she began to pursue careers in singing and modeling. Yearning to take her musical career to the next level, she moved to New York. There she began working with Teddy Riley to prepare her for an album, and to sign a contract with Motown. While working with Riley, her life took a drastic turn. God began to deal with her about salvation and walking away from her dream to record with Motown and have a successful career as a musical artist. Without looking back, she left New York, re-dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and began to not only sing for the Lord but to travel across the world ministering the gospel.
For more than 20 years, music had become an afterthought for Cynthia until she received a prophetic word stating that she would sing again and that her voice (her sound) would be used to minister to people across the world. In 2012, while singing and ministering in church, she received confirmation that it was time to go back into the studio to record music to reach a new generation of people both inside and outside of the church. Her hit single, "You Make Me Great" produced by Howard Coleman and co-produced Arnell "Moezart" Roundtree and Michael Norman is the first song on her highly anticipated debut album "I Can Be Free."
Since 2001, she and her husband have been pastoring a growing and progressively diverse church in Boca Raton, Florida.
