Living in Florida comes with sunshine, beaches, cafecito and, apparently, one of the lowest safety rankings in the country.
WalletHub released its 2026 Safest States in America ranking, and Florida came in at No. 47 out of 50, making it the fourth least safe state in the country. Only Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi ranked lower.
And it’s not just about crime. WalletHub looked at everything from driving and finances to workplace safety and how prepared each state is when an emergency happens.
Here’s how Florida ranked:
Personal and Residential Safety: No. 31
Financial Safety: No. 45
Road Safety: No. 43
Workplace Safety: No. 46
Emergency Preparedness: No. 47
Florida also tied for No. 45 when it came to the amount of money lost per person because of major climate disasters.
Meanwhile, Vermont came in at No. 1, making it the safest state in America for 2026.
Listen, I love Florida. I was born and raised here. But between hurricane season and surviving I-95 on a daily basis, that No. 47 ranking feels a little too believable.
