Former Miami Heat Star Trades His Jersey for a Police Badge in South Florida

New York Knicks player Amar'e Stoudemire told the New York Post, "It019s great to strive for something that can better yourself but a lot of times people make New Year019s resolutions and never follow through and it019s broken after a week or two.

Imagine getting pulled over and realizing the officer standing at your window is a six-time NBA All-Star.

Well, that might not be too far-fetched here in South Florida!

Former Miami Heat player Amar’e Stoudemire has officially traded his basketball jersey for a police badge.

The 43-year-old graduated from the police academy Wednesday at Miami Dade College’s North Campus and is joining the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department.

Stoudemire spent 14 seasons in the NBA, including his final season with the Miami Heat in 2015-2016. He averaged nearly 19 points and eight rebounds per game during his career.

He was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame earlier this year!

And apparently, becoming a police officer has been a childhood dream. Stoudemire says several members of his family have worked in law enforcement.

After more than 10 months of police academy training, he’s ready for his next chapter.

At 6-foot-10, something tells me he’s not going to have much trouble getting people’s attention.
