Whitney Houston Gets Her First-Ever Barbie Doll

Whitney Houston’s legacy is getting the Barbie treatment for the first time.

Mattel unveiled the Barbie Signature Whitney Houston Doll on Aug. 9, which would have been the late singer’s 63rd birthday. The doll recreates Whitney’s iconic look from the 1987 music video for “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me),” complete with her purple dress, colorful earrings, signature makeup and a microphone stand.

The doll was created in collaboration with Whitney’s sister-in-law, Pat Houston, who also serves as executor of her estate. Pat says conversations about creating a Whitney doll actually began roughly 20 years ago.

The release comes during a milestone year celebrating 40 years of Whitney Houston’s music and legacy.

Pat says Mattel paid close attention to every detail, from the hair and earrings to the shoes and dress, and hopes the doll will introduce Whitney’s impact to a whole new generation.

The Whitney Houston Barbie is now available through Mattel Creations and major retailers including Target, Walmart and Amazon.
