Some South Florida cities have announced that they will be offering sandbags to their residents ahead of Hurricane Dorian. Sandbags for each city will only be offered to residents of those cities who bring a state-issued driver's license or identification card.
- The City of Margate will be offering sandbags starting Friday at 8 a.m. at the Margate Sports Complex. The sandbags will be offered on a first come, first serve basis.
- Proof of residency will be required to collect your sandbags, and each household will receive up to 10 bags, while supplies last. For more information, call the Margate City Manager's Office at (954) 935-5300.
- Hallandale Beach is out of sand at the Big Easy Casino. It remains unknown if more will be brought Saturday.
- Fort Lauderdale is out of sand at Mills Pond Park.
- Dania Beach residents can get free sandbags at the Dania Beach Casino, at the North East parking lot starting at 6 p.m. Limit: six sandbags per household.
- City of West Park offering sandbags at 12 p.m. Friday at McTyre Park, Mary Saunders Park and Water Tower Park. Limit: six per person while supplies last.
- Pompano Beach will be distributing sandbags on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. across the street from Pompano Beach Airpark, 1660 NE 10th St., while supplies last. There is a 10 bag limit per household.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
- The City of Homestead will be offering sandbags to Homestead residents from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Roby George Park and the Homestead Sports Complex. Proof of residency required. Limit 10 bags per household.
- Opa-locka will be offering sandbags to residents at 13250 NW 42 Ave. The sandbags will be offered from 8 a.m. Friday until supplies run out.
- Florida City will be handing out free sandbags to residents beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Public Works Compound.
- Rudy's Ready Mix will be donating more than 500 sandbags to Miami-Dade residents beginning at 11 a.m. at 7301 NW 47th St.
- Miami Lakes will be giving out free sandbags from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., or until supplies last at Royal Oaks Park, 16500 NW 87th Ave. Must show proof of residency. Residents will need to bring their own bags.
- North Miami Beach will be handing out up to six sandbags to residents with proof of ID at the north side of the North Miami Beach Operations Center, 2101 NE 159 St., starting at 12 p.m. This location has run out of bags as of 3:30 p.m.
- Sunny Isles will be offering sandbags to residents under the William Lehman Causeway, 19160 Collins Ave., from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Bags, shovels and sand will be provided but residents will need to fill the bags themselves.
- Miami Springs will offer sandbags at 1 p.m. Friday to its residents as well as those living in Virginia Gardens at Optimist Club parking lot at 1101 Wren Ave. until supplies last.
- A sandbag distribution will be held in Southwest Miami-Dade at Miami Baptist Church, 14955 SW 88 St., starting at 3 p.m. Shovels and bags will not be provided. Identification cards are not necessary for this distribution center.
- City of Miami will be distributing sandbags at Legion Park, 6447 NE 7th Ave., and Grapeland Park, 1550 NW 37th Ave, on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. There is a six bag limit per household.
- Miami Beach will be distributing sandbags on Saturday at the Public Works yard, 451 Dade Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Miami-Dade County residents can get free sandbags at Amelia Earhart Park, 401 E 65th St., and Norman Jean Reach Park, 7895 NW 176th St, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday until supplies last.
- Miami Gardens will be distributing sandbags at Miami Gardens City Hall, 18605 NW 27 Avenue, starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Residents may bring their own bags.
